MOMO, the Missouri Monster, is a local legend in Missouri. Residents claiming to have spotted the monster describe it as being a black, furry man-like creature whose eyes are covered by hair, whose head is round and “pumpkin-shaped.” MOMO is reported to be over 7 feet tall, smells terrible, and may be related to Bigfoot or Sasquatch.

Local farmer Donald Smith says he might have seen the monster on his Mt. Grove, Missouri farm when milking his cattle early in the morning.

History of the MOMO hoax is surrounded with legends such as wings, a taste for dogs, and a bright flash of light surrounding him when spotted. The first spotting was reported in 1971 near Louisiana, MO. Historically most sightings have taken place near the Mississippi river in the south-eastern region of Missouri. Never has MOMO surfaced anywhere else in the state until recently. Rumors spreading in the Ozarks suggest the Missouri Monster relocated due to drought, and has made a new home in the lush southern-Missouri hills.
