Hundreds of 3rd Graders to Visit City Hall

About 400 third grade students will meet Mayor Bob Stephens, members of City Council and city Staff at a special event tomorrow beginning at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall.

“The Treasures of the City,” a treasure hunt for knowledge about city government, is part of the Springfield Public Schools’ Partners in Education (PIE) program, and is a 23-year tradition.

The students have been studying local municipal government for the past several weeks as a part of their regular social studies curriculum. Lessons learned in the classroom will be complemented by the student field trip with their families, which includes a look at police and fire vehicles and a tour of Busch Municipal Building and Historic City Hall.

When students arrive, they are provided a treasure map and clues that will lead them around Government Plaza, until they discover the treasure in City Council Chambers.
