WASHINGTON (AP) — Democrats plan to emphasize President Barack Obama’s record on national security and veterans on the night he delivers his address at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C.

An Obama campaign official says the party will discuss Obama’s handling of national security issues and his work with veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan on Sept. 6, the final night of the convention. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because a formal announcement was pending.

The night will include a speech by Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry, the party’s 2004 presidential nominee and a veteran of the Vietnam War. Kerry is chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

Obama will deliver his address at Charlotte’s Bank of America Stadium.
