What to Expect When You’re Attending the Coolest Event of the Season

Mother's Brewing Company hosts the 1st annual Center City Marketplace on Saturday, August 25th from 2pm-8pm

Downtown Springfield Missouri and historic Commercial Street (C-Street) businesses are teaming up with Mother’s Brewing Company for a fun affair this summers-end, bringing you a one-of-kind food and shopping experience: The 1st annual Center City Marketplace. The event will be held on the lawn behind Mother’s on Saturday, August 25th, from 2pm-8pm. There will be something for all kinds of people, of any age or interest, so head to Mother’s backyard and see how Downtowners do it.

Downtown is a lifestyle and events mecca for the people of Springfield with a mixture of shops, dining and exploration in unique coffee houses, memorable restaurants, galleries and theaters. Here you are bound to find any food, fashion, handcrafted goods or arts your heart desires. The downtown area, whose roots were the hub of opportunity and business, has now evolved into the gathering place of culture and the arts for every Springfield local. Downtown, the weekend vibe lasts all week long.

Delighting legal-aged beer drinkers for two years now, Mother’s Brewing Company takes pride in its well-crafted, creative beer that’s bound to be shared among friends. Every glass introduces your taste buds to the artisanal passion of craft-brew masters. Experience local beer perfection right here in Springfield, and you won’t look far again for genuine beer flavors like Imperial Three Blind Mice, Towhead, Sandy and Old School.

Guests are warned that strolling and shopping around might take more than just the few hours allocated for the event, and bringing lawn chairs is highly encouraged to enjoy on-site entertainment in the names of locals’ favorites: Troy, The Western Paradise, Bella Donna and Johan Collins of Black Box Revue.

Listed under Reverb Nation, Troy will be rendering rock tunes to music lovers loitering in the marketplace. Gaining influence in the rock and battle rock scene, Troy released their first album “Effective Immediately” in 2007, taking pride in powerful sound and guitar accompaniment.

The Western Paradise, another local favorite, whose sound is a psychedelic rock and garage mainstay, will also grace the ears of Center City Marketplace attendees. For listeners craving for the likes of Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen, The Western Paradise is your go-to band.

Bella Donna will also be performing live. Be sure to catch them as they show off their top tracks and crowd favorites. Recreating music in the musical styling of Stevie Nicks in concert, their beats are sure to relax and bring back memories of the golden years.

Pump up the excitement with the Dance Party King himself, Johan Collins of Black Box Revue to offer the latest of the house music genre, reviving energy in the Springfield party scene.

Rock out to local tunes as you peruse booths from downtown shops.

Fashion forward shoppers will find many great options from boutiques such as Modern Society. Trying to build this fall’s wardrobe? Create bold and casual outfits with pieces from Modern Society’s new August arrivals.
Grab a trendy, versatile bag from Nomad and fill it with back-to-school needs. Pick out your favorite threads from endless choices of patterns and prints and be the chic, fashionable and content Nomad in Springfield’s streets.

Score great finds in 5 Pound Apparel’s newest collection for the season and satisfy your fashion needs in the name of this fashion haven for both men and women. Genuine and handcrafted pieces are up for sale, and you will feel good knowing that every item purchased from this socially-aware business gives back to a cause.

Downtown Clothing Exchange is also joining the party happening and is bringing in tow its adorable vintage finds and at bargain prices too! Choose your colors and styles in the name of tops, dresses, handmade knits and more. Who says being fashionable can’t be affordable?

Early birds (up to the first 50) will be receiving re-usable shopping bags with goodies from different local establishments. Your friendly neighborhood optical store, Downtown Vision Clinic, is a raffle sponsor for the Marketplace event. While dropping by for an eye-checkup and other services at any of their offices, get your wristbands in advance at $5 each for additional raffle tickets for bigger chances of winning.

Aura Face + Body will be putting up some prizes for raffle. Who wouldn’t want to win treats and handmade goodies from Aura Face + Body for some tender, loving care for your skin? Their products are all organic, healthy and calming, so check out their items in store!

Speaking of handmade goods, why not create something with your very own hands at RSVPaint? Or better yet, try your hand and win a prize from RSVPaint; they are also raffle sponsors, and might be giving away classes to some lucky Marketplace-goers. RSVPaint offers painting classes under the guidance of a local artist, allowing students to tap into their artistic side and create their own masterpieces during each class.

Excited for the big day? You may be more excited to learn that proceeds from the Center City Marketplace go to The Kitchen, Inc., a non-profit local group that reaches out to the poor via volunteer services. The Kitchen, Inc. has a food pantry, Rare Breed Youth Services and the Missouri Hotel, where proceeds of the Marketplace will go to help recover from the fire in January of this year.

Music, fashion, food and fun are the main attractions for the biggest event of the season in downtown Springfield. Bring your friends and family for endless fun and laughter, and feel guilt-free spending, knowing that each dollar spent goes to charity.
